چکیده

We report on the association of an X-ray source (WGA J2025.1+3342), serendipitously found with BeppoSAX in two separate observations, with the unidentified EGRET source 3EG J2027+3429. The source is detected from 1 keV up to about 100 keV, has a flat (Γ=0.6-1.5) spectrum and is highly variable both in intensity and shape. The data indicate marginal evidence for an iron line in the source rest frame. The overall X-ray luminosity is ∼ 4 1045 erg s−1 typical of a quasar. The X-ray source is coincident in radio with a bright object characterized by a flat spectrum over the band 0.3-10 GHz while in optical it is identified with a quasar at redshift 0.22. All available data indicate a SED compatible with a low frequency peaked or red blazar type object. This identification is interesting because this is the second blazar found behind the galactic plane in the direction of the Cygnus region.

IGR J12319–0749: evidence for another extreme blazar found with INTEGRAL

We report on the identification of a new soft gamma-ray source, IGR J12319–0749, detected with the IBIS imager on board the INTEGRAL satellite. The source, which has an observed 20−100 keV flux of ∼8.3 × 10−12 erg cm−2 s−1, is spatially coincident with an active galactic nucleus (AGN) at redshift z = 3.12. The broad-band continuum, obtained by combining XRT and IBIS data, is flat (Γ = 1.3) with...

Estimating jet power in proton blazar models

We discuss the various contributions to the jet luminosity in proton blazar models of active galactic nuclei and describe a method of estimating the jet luminosity from the observed spectral energy distribution (SED) and the fitted model parameters. We apply this to a synchrotron proton blazar (SPB) model for Markarian 501.

Poor Understanding of Radiation Profiles in Deep Space Causes Inaccurate Findings and Misleading Conclusions

The radiation environment in deep space, where astronauts are behind the shelter provided by the Earth’s magnetosphere, is a major health concern. Galactic cosmic rays (GCR) and solar particle events (SPE) are two basic sources of space radiation in the solar system. The health risks of exposure to high levels of space radiation can be observed either as acute and delayed effects. Zhang et al. ...

The Gamma-ray Blazar Content of the Northern Sky

Using survey data, we have re-evaluated the correlation of flat spectrum radio sources with EGRET sources in the Northern sky. A likelihood analysis incorporating the radio and X-ray properties and the γ-ray source localization is used to gauge the reliability of associations and to search for counterparts of previously unidentified EGRET sources. Above |b|=10, where the classification is compl...

Blazar Demographics with MOJAVE and GLAST

MOJAVE is a long term VLBA program to investigate the kinematics and polarization evolution of a complete sample of 133 active galactic nuclei selected on the basis of compact, relativistically beamed jet emission at 15 GHz. By fitting to the apparent distributions of superluminal speed and jet luminosity, we can constrain the Lorentz factor distribution and intrinsic luminosity function of the...
